The journey of resistance and protest finds voice and energy in the spirited commitment of black and white youth across the country, as well as local community activists, who peopled the sit-ins, sit-downs, Freedom Rides, bus and business boycotts and changed the course of national policy through direct action.

The economics of protest impacted municipalities and private entrepreneurs at their most vulnerable point – the bottom line. In this exhibit, the visitor is a witness to the history of some of America’s landmark events, including the Selma to Montgomery March, Freedom Summer, the Poor People’s Campaign, and the March on Washington through the window of an actual bus.
